One of the coolest cartoons from the 80`s -and in general one of the best toons ever- to have aired on the small screen are The Transformers. Intelligent robots from the planet Cybertron who can change into vehicles from robotform and back. Just genius! |
What was the Transformers about?
Long, long away in the galaxy there was a planet called Cybertron where intelligent robots lived, namely the Transformers. The Transformers existed of Autobots and Decepticons.
The Autobots led by Optimus Prime were good and the Decepticons led by Megatron were evil. Between both groups a million year long battles took place for dominance over Cybertron.
While the Autobots wanted to live in peace, the Decepticons wanted to conquer others, among them the Autobots.
One day the Autobots led by Optimus head for space in search of Energon - the fuel for all Transformers- but get ambushed by Megatron. While they struggle on board, their ships crash lands on Earth 4 million years ago.
Four million years later the volcano, into which their ship had crash landed, erupts thus reviving the medical machines on board. The Decepticons get a first make over and then the Autobots. Now that both factions have been awakened their war continues on Earth with humanity standing in their midst.

Aside from the fact the show revolved around robots that could transform into everyday vehicles and the likes, what made the show great were of the characters, the setting and of course the story. Up to the present few if any shows have had such a great voice cast and the big rooster of characters as the Transformers.
The Transformers have also find their way to dvd. The whole serie is available on region 1 dvd as well as region 2. You can find them at the majority of the online stores.
